A reliable, highly organised scientist with a strong background in wet chemistry and organo-inorganic chemistry to support R&D activities across our advanced materials portfolio — generating high-quality experimental data, maintaining accurate records and contributing to the interpretation of results.

• Support the execution of R&D projects from experimental design through to data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Prepare structured experimental plans with clear objectives, methodologies, controls and defined success criteria, under the guidance of senior technical staff.
• Design and perform laboratory experiments using appropriate wet chemistry and materials processing techniques, ensuring consistent and reliable outputs.
• Accurately record, organise and maintain experimental data, laboratory notes and supporting documentation to a high standard.
• Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of experimental and characterisation data, supporting evidence-based conclusions and next steps.
• Assist in identifying technical challenges, experimental uncertainties and data gaps, escalating issues appropriately to maintain project progress.
• Support the optimisation and refinement of materials, formulations and processes through iterative experimentation.
• Produce clear, concise technical summaries, reports and documentation suitable for internal use and review.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across R&D, production and commercial teams to support translation of research into practical applications.
• Contribute to the generation, documentation and protection of intellectual property, maintaining appropriate confidentiality at all times.
• Strict adherence to health and safety protocols and compliance with UK environmental policies for waste and hazardous substances.

PhD or research-based Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a focus on inorganic or materials chemistry.
Practical laboratory experience in wet chemistry, synthesis and materials characterisation.
Demonstrated ability to plan and execute experiments and accurately record and report results in a structured, reproducible manner.
Experience working with relevant analytical techniques (e.g. XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA or similar).
Ability to interpret experimental data and contribute to evidence-based conclusions under the guidance of senior technical staff.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality, documentation and reproducibility of results.
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
Understanding of laboratory safety principles and experience working with chemicals in accordance with risk assessments and standard procedures.
Awareness of the importance of intellectual property and the responsible handling of confidential information.
Experience working in an industrial R&D, start-up or technology development environment.
Exposure to materials or process optimisation and iterative experimental development.
Familiarity with scaling laboratory processes towards pilot or early-stage production.
Experience contributing to technical reports, internal documentation or project updates.
Awareness of intellectual property processes (e.g. patents, confidentiality management).
Experience contributing to multiple concurrent projects and managing competing priorities.

Contract: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours / week).
