First SW Engineer. Architect and build the core product.

The problem

Compliance in MedTech is complex, manual, and error-prone, but it's also a moat, and a strategic endeavor. It's like wind in sailing: work with it and it propels you forward; ignore it and you're fighting the current.

Klaris is an AI platform transforming how MedTech companies navigate regulatory documentation and approvals. We help medical device companies gain faster approvals, pass audits, and focus on patients and innovation while giving them confidence in their decisions.

About us

We're a pre-seed AI startup in London, backed by Meridian Health Ventures, Antler, Vento Ventures, and incredible angels with a runway to scale. Francesco (CEO & co-founder) spent a decade in MedTech bringing multiple lifesaving products from concept to patients, he's lived the compliance pain we're solving. Mihai (CTO & co-founder) has a PhD on decision making in multi-agent systems and led research in safe and interactive planning for self-driving.

The role

As our first Full Stack Engineer, you will be expected to take full ownership of critical, end-to-end (frontend, backend and infra) components of the product. Working in tight collaboration with our CTO, you will not just execute, but actively define and establish the technical foundations, standards, and architecture upon which all future engineering efforts will scale.

As a Founding member, your influence will extend beyond code: you will significantly impact the engineering team's culture and structure, and the technical hiring strategy as we grow from a core team to a full-fledged engineering organisation.

What we're looking for

You must possess deep expertise across the entire software development lifecycle, from initial concept and development through to verification and validation (V&V), deployment, and ongoing monitoring. Ideally you should have demonstrable experience either integrating AI functionalities into products in production or prototyping with it. We don’t care about degrees or years on a CV. We want to see evidence of exceptional software engineering experience and craft.

Startup DNA is essential: comfort with ambiguity, high agency, and excitement about 0-to-1 building. We're looking for someone who thrives with autonomy and makes independent decisions without needing structure or oversight. In early stages of a startup, you are expected to both prototype quickly and also develop production-ready solutions.

While experience in the MedTech or Regulatory industry is a strong bonus, this should not put you off from applying. We foremost value fast learners, determined and adaptable candidates.

Core technical skills

Strong competence and proven experience (4+ years) with:

  • API Development: implementing and documenting high-performance, secure, and well-structured RESTful or GraphQL APIs, primarily using Node.js/Next.js/TypeScript.

  • Integration: integrating third-party services or libraries APIs, as well as custom AI model endpoints, into a secure and production-ready application.

  • System Architecture: modern microservices or service-oriented architectures, design patterns, and best practices for building maintainable and testable codebases in TypeScript.

  • Frontend Development: modern frontend development using React and Next.js, focusing on state management, performance optimization and responsiveness.

  • Design and UX/UI: collaborating with designers, understanding Figma designs and translating them into intuitive and accessible user interfaces.

  • Deployment & CI/CD: Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable platforms. Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, verifiable and validated software deployment.

  • Data Management: database integration and schema design (e.g., PostgreSQL, TypeORM), including efficient query optimization and data security practices.

  • Infrastructure: cloud platforms (in particular GCP or AWS), containerization tools (Kubernetes, Docker), and infrastructure-as-code/management tools (e.g., Terraform).

What we offer

  • Compensation: competitive base salary + equity, with flexibility to adjust the cash/equity mix for more senior candidates.

  • Time off: 25 days + UK bank holidays.

  • Environment: Office in London (hybrid). We value in-person collaboration and would love you in our Aldgate East office regularly, especially initially. But we're also parent-friendly and offer genuine flexibility.

  • Benefits: Health insurance and pension schemes

  • Visa sponsorship: We can sponsor visas for the right candidate.

Target start: As soon as possible
