About the Role

We’re hiring a Manager, Norway Tax to lead Norwegian tax compliance and provide commercially focused tax support across Nscale’s growing business.

Reporting to the VP, International Tax as part of the Tax team, this role acts as the internal lead for Norwegian tax matters and works closely with Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams, as well as external Norwegian advisors. You’ll own the end-to-end compliance cycle for corporate income tax and VAT while supporting broader advisory, structuring, and reporting needs tied to Nscale’s operations in Norway.

This is a high-impact role for a Norwegian tax specialist who wants to combine deep technical expertise with hands-on ownership in a fast-moving AI infrastructure company. Your work will help ensure compliance, surface and manage risk early, and support the wider Group’s tax strategy as Nscale continues to scale.

What you'll be doing

Norwegian Tax Compliance

  • Own all Norwegian corporate income tax compliance obligations, including preparation and review of annual tax returns filed with Skatteetaten.
  • Manage Norwegian VAT compliance end-to-end, including bi-monthly VAT returns, registrations, and ongoing monitoring for digital services, AI infrastructure, and cross-border supplies.
  • Apply Norway’s interest limitation rules, ensuring net interest deductions remain within the EBITDA threshold and that group de minimis rules are documented appropriately.
  • Monitor net operating loss positions, including carried-forward losses and any loss carryback positions arising on cessation of activities.
  • Oversee capital allowance calculations and the application of Norway’s mandatory declining-balance depreciation rules across relevant asset classes.

Tax Reporting, Governance, and Authority Engagement

  • Maintain a robust compliance calendar covering filing deadlines, payment obligations, and submission requirements to avoid late-filing exposure.
  • Prepare and manage tax provisions and reporting under US GAAP (ASC 740), IFRS, and Norwegian GAAP, including deferred tax analysis and effective tax rate reporting.
  • Coordinate tax audits and enquiries from relevant authorities, ensuring documentation is complete and risks are managed appropriately.
  • Act as the primary internal point of contact for Norwegian tax matters, providing timely updates and guidance to the Finance Director, wider Tax team, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage relationships with external Norwegian tax advisors, including engagement scope, advice review, deadlines, and deliverable quality.

Advisory and Business Support

  • Support proactive Norwegian tax advice on business-led transactions, new commercial arrangements, and operational structuring.
  • Assess the Norwegian tax implications of intercompany transactions, including transfer pricing considerations and arm’s-length pricing requirements.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to identify tax risks early and escalate issues in line with the Group’s tax strategy.
  • Contribute to M&A activity by supporting the internal Tax advisory team and working closely with Legal and Finance.

International and Cross-Border Tax Matters

  • Manage assessment of permanent establishment (PE) risks in Norway, including digital economy and agency PE exposure relevant to Nscale’s AI infrastructure activities.
  • Support advice on Norwegian withholding tax obligations for cross-border payments, including dividends, interest, royalties, and treaty relief positions.
  • Assist with group structuring projects involving Norway, including the participation exemption (fritaksmetoden), CFC rules, and intra-group financing arrangements.
  • Monitor developments in Norwegian tax legislation and OECD/BEPS-driven reforms and communicate the impact on Norwegian operations.
  • Support Pillar Two global minimum tax compliance and analysis as it relates to Nscale’s Norwegian entities.

About You

  • 5+ years of Norwegian tax experience, ideally across both compliance and advisory work.
  • Experience gained in a Big 4, law firm, or in-house multinational environment with Norwegian operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Norwegian corporate income tax, VAT, interest limitation rules, capital allowances, and NOL carryforward/carryback rules.
  • Familiarity with Skatteetaten processes, digital filing systems, and audit or enquiry procedures.
  • Good understanding of Norway’s international tax framework, including withholding tax, treaty positions, participation exemption, and PE risk assessment.
  • Awareness of OECD BEPS measures and Pillar Two in a Norwegian context.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams and translate technical issues into clear, commercially focused guidance.
  • Professional qualification such as Norwegian State Authorised Public Accountant, Norwegian Bar Association tax qualification, or equivalent; ACA, CTA, or ADIT with strong Norway-specific expertise will also be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with complete fluency in both English and Norwegian.
  • Detail-oriented, pragmatic, and comfortable working independently in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
